Edo Tokyo museum

The Edo Tokyo museum was very close to our hotel. The building is massive and is elevated in the air. You can walk under the museum while being outside. The atmosphere of the museum reproduced the Edo period. Edo was also the name of Tokyo before it was renamed.

Tokyo fish market

We woke up early to visit the Tokyo fish market where you can walk between fish sellers. At some point we were met by some security personnel with an English sign saying that we were in a zone restricted to commercial use only! We had to turn back and went to eat some freshly cut fish.

Akihabara – The discovery of tendon

Akihabara is the “consumer electronic” area of Tokyo where you have to go to buy anything from cell phones to laptops. After the purchase of a memory card, we tried to go to a izakaya but there was no place left so we went to a tendon chain restaurant instead.

Tokyo Imperial palace

The Tokyo Imperial palace is the official residence of the Japanese Emperor since the capital was moved from Kyoto to Tokyo. Access to the Emperors quarters is strictly prohibited but it is possible to visit a beautiful garden and a small museum within the site.

Monjayaki

Monjayaki originated in the Tsukishima district in Tokyo. It is some kind of crepe you cook and eat directly on the grill in the middle of the table. We went on the Monja street, which is the home to dozens of restaurants specialized in monjayaki.
